They might first ask you the type of metal before telling you to remove it. If that's the case and you got yours from Summie Jewelry, it will be 14k gold filled or .925 sterling silver.

In case you did get your permanent jewelry from us and need to remove it for an MRI, we will gladly re-weld it for you free of charge.

Simply cut your piece of jewelry using kitchen scissors. Preferably, cut the jumpring (the spot where it was welded). This way, the integrity of the actual chain remains and we can fix your Summie Jewelry.

The process is quick and easy. What usually takes the longest is for the customer to decide on what type of chain and charms they would like. The permanent jewelry process can be broken down in 4 steps:

  1. You select the type of chain you'd like (gold, silver, thick, thin, etc)

  2. You get to customize it with add ons (connectors, charms, pendants, etc)

  3. The permanent jewelry artist will measure the chain to your liking (short, long, loose, etc)

  4. The two ends of the chain are welded (zapped) together with a micro welder

It shouldn't. Most permanent jewelry businesses used metals that are meant to be worn on a daily basis. Meaning you can go swimming, work out, shower, sleep or do whatever you'd normally do wearing your jewelry.

However, it will get dirty. Just like any other piece of jewelry, the normal wear and tear will cause your piece of jewelry to get dirty.

You can clean it with any special jewelry cleaner you'd like. However, to clean both 14k gold filled and sterling silver using dawn dish soap, a touch of warm water using a soft toothbrush, should do the job. Just scrub it lightly.

Is permanent jewelry safe?

Yes, absolutely! The process is painless and quick. Permanent jewelers usually practice a lot before actually welding a chain onto a real person. Also, it's crucial that some safety measures are followed:

  • a piece of leather is used to protect your skin from the spark

  • a high quality, well maintained micro welder is used

  • safety goggles are worn. You can also choose to just close your eyes
